Friendship With God.

INTRODUCTION:

The Bible teaches, that all people, regardless of age, race or religion, were created with a capacity and a need for friendship with God.  Accordingly: Life is not complete unless we are enjoing a personal relationship with our Creator.

BODY:

One of the authors of the New Testament, writes about his friendship with God. In his letter to Christian in the city of Philippi, the Apostle Paul shares a startling admission that : For much of his life he'd belived that: attaining spritual perfection was the key to happiness.  Fortunately, at some point in his personal journey, Paul's whole perspective, changes.  Listen to him talk about it, Philippians 3:7,8 "But whatever was to my profit, I now, consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish (worthless) that I may gain Christ."

Think about that statement. Paul is referring specifically to his pursuit of religious perpection, but it could equally be applied to a pursuit of wealth, fame or power.  He's come to the conclusion, that life can't be defined or measured by one's possessions, or power, or even one's ability at keeping all the religious rules.

For Paul, the experience of "knowing" Jesus Christ as the Lord of His life had surpassed all those other pursuits. It's where he found purpose and a passion for Life. People can get more out of Life.  The secret is in recognizing the value and opportunity we have, in developing a friendship with the king of the universe.

But how can we develop a close fellowship with such a mighty, awesome being?.There are many things that can be said about this, but let me share one text that give us a hint : 2 John 1:9 says, "Anyone who runs ahead, and does not continue in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching, has both the father and the son."

Conclusion:

According to this Bible text, one thing that anchors our frienship with God is: the implementation of His word in our life.  If we want to enjoy intimate fellowship with the Lord, we need to make study and obedience of His ways--a priority.  The more we do that, the sweeter and more intimate will be our friendship with God.

   GOD BLESS US! AMEN.
